Our Story- Chosen Through Every Season
Michael and Felisha's story began in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, where they both attended Champlin Park High School — two grade levels apart. Though their paths didn't fully cross at the time, Michael quietly noticed Felisha, particularly for the oversized purse and matching backpack she carried daily (always prepared for anything). Felisha, meanwhile, was already telling her friends with full confidence that she was going to marry him one day.
Their connection officially sparked at Michael's graduation party after he completed his Finance degree at North Dakota State University. When Felisha walked in wearing blue jeans and a white top, she immediately caught his eye. Michael kept it simple: "Do you have my number in your phone?" She didn't — so he gave it to her, and they never stopped talking.
Back in Minneapolis, Michael began his career at UnitedHealthcare while Felisha pursued her dream of becoming a nurse. Their daily rhythm became something special — after work, Michael would head to her place, where Felisha would have homemade lunches prepared for the next day: salmon, spaghetti, fresh-cut fruit. His coworkers noticed immediately. What once were forgettable intern lunches had turned into meals that looked straight out of a high-end kitchen. Together, they'd also hit LA Fitness after work — pushing each other forward in every sense.
When Felisha enrolled at the University of Milwaukee and began serving in the National Guard, distance only strengthened what they had. Michael made sure she had everything she needed every time she came home — picking her up, dropping her off, being a steady presence no matter the schedule. Felisha, true to form, showed up to National Guard duties looking polished and put-together, nails done, even while handling a firearm. It was something that genuinely amazed Michael — her ability to balance strength and grace made her one of a kind.
About five months into their relationship, a Chris Brown concert in Dallas became a turning point. When Michael's friends backed out one by one, he asked Felisha if she'd fly with him. She said yes without hesitation. On October 5, 2019, they took their first trip together — attending the concert, exploring the city with Felisha's cousin, and somewhere between the laughs and the energy of it all, falling in love with Dallas. It planted a seed neither of them forgot.
One of the most quietly powerful chapters of their relationship unfolded around a simple fear — elevators. When Michael moved into a sixth-floor apartment, Felisha chose the stairs every single time, 120 steps per visit, rather than face the elevator. Michael climbed every one of those steps with her. But he also made a plan: every two weeks, they'd take the elevator one additional floor, slowly working their way up until she could ride it all the way to the sixth. On the day it finally happened, Michael ran up five flights of stairs so that when the elevator doors opened, he was already there waiting for her. In that moment, Felisha realized something far deeper than overcoming a fear — she realized Michael would always be on the other side.
That growth became visible to everyone when Felisha planned Michael's first-ever surprise party, gathering both of their families and friends. When she arrived, she stepped right off the elevator — no hesitation. Those who knew her story understood exactly what they had just witnessed.
As their relationship deepened, Michael was also blessed with a new role — uncle to Felisha's three nieces: Everly, Layla, and Capri. Felisha's love for those girls was impossible to miss. A quick shopping trip for herself would always somehow end with five things for her and twenty for her nieces. Every single time. It was just who she was.
Through Felisha's nursing journey — long nights, early mornings, demanding clinicals — Michael became her biggest supporter. He'd stay up late quizzing her, keeping her motivated when the weight of it felt like too much. He believed in her, sometimes more than she believed in herself. That dedication paid off when Felisha earned her undergraduate nursing degree from Rasmussen College and landed her first nursing job at Medical City Lewisville in Dallas.
The job came with a relocation package — and the decision was easy. They sold everything in Minnesota, packed what remained into a U-Haul with two close friends and family members, and drove 16 hours to start over. They arrived with six months of savings, the clothes on their backs, and each other. That first night, they bought an air mattress, plastic plates, and a few pots and pans from Walmart. They slept on that mattress side by side, and the next day started building — a piece of furniture at a time, a room at a time, a life at a time.
On her first day at Medical City Lewisville, Michael dropped her off and picked her up. What began in day surgery grew into aesthetics, fertility, and eventually SUD nursing, where Felisha now serves as a charge nurse on an Acute Stabilization Unit — a testament to her talent, resilience, and compassion. In parallel, Michael continued advancing his own career through senior roles at UnitedHealthcare, Amazon, and now AT&T.
Felisha also made it her mission to bring their worlds together, planning trips that allowed Michael to connect with her extended family and friends — including a memorable trip to Cancún surrounded by the people closest to her. Each experience was a reflection of how deeply she values family and the intentionality she brings to everything she does.
In Dallas, they found their church home at Concord Church. In January 2025, after a Sunday service and brunch, Michael shared with Felisha that he wanted to be baptized. She looked at him and said she wanted to be baptized with him. On March 2, 2025, surrounded by their closest friends, they both dedicated their lives to Christ — a milestone that carried deep personal meaning for Michael as he prepared himself not just as a partner, but as a future husband.
Shortly after, Michael learned about Concord Church's premarital counseling program — "Couples Seriously Interested" (CSI) — and signed them up. For three months, every Sunday from June through August, they sat side by side working through the real conversations: communication, expectations, values, and growth. What required giving up Sunday afternoons for a summer became one of the most meaningful investments they ever made — deepening their bond, equipping them for marriage, and introducing them to lasting friendships with other couples on the same path.
On September 6, 2025, a trip back to Minnesota for the State Fair carried a deeper purpose. Michael sat down with Felisha's father and asked for his blessing to marry her. Her father said yes — and Michael left that conversation overwhelmed with gratitude, knowing his next step was clear.
On October 4, 2025 — the first Saturday of October, chosen deliberately to mirror that first trip to Dallas in October 2019 — Michael got down on one knee and asked Felisha to be his wife. What began with a Chris Brown concert and a city they fell in love with had come full circle. With every memory, every step, and every moment between them behind him, Michael asked — and a promise that had been building for years was finally made official.
